Champion and rare trees in Royal Victoria Park and Botanical Gardens

A short walk that will give you just an idea of the huge variety of interesting trees to be found in our parks.  The Royal Victoria Park has the distinction of being one of the very first public parks to be established in England, dating from 1829, when the city fathers had an ambition to establish an 'arboretum for the West of England'.  Many thousands of trees and shrubs were planted then and since, and we will visit just a few of them.  In September we should be able to see autumn colour and fruits; our route will depend on what is looking its best. Trees are such an important element of every city, but here in Bath where the built landscape is so celebrated they can be overlooked, and here is a chance to revel in the vital contribution trees make. The walk leader is Antonia Johnson and will involve leaving the footpath, it will finish in the Botanical Gardens. This walk is part of Bathscape Walking Festival.
